What is Mesotherapy?

Mesotherapy is used to get rid of excess fat as well as to tighten up and revitalize the skin. This non-surgical procedure is done by using injections of hormones, plant extracts, vitamins, and enzymes. This procedure helps to take out excess fat from the stomach, hips, legs, thighs, buttocks, arms, and face. It also helps to reduce cellulite. Moreover, this technique is also used to treat a condition called alopecia, which causes hair loss.

Mesotherapy is generally performed by dermatologists i.e. doctors who have specialized in treating skin disorders.

The procedure:

This procedure is done in multiple sessions in order to achieve the desired effect. Patient may or may not receive any numbing lotion on the treatment area. Multiple injections of various substances are given in a row with the help of a special short needle that might be attached to a mechanical gun. Depending on the treatment required, the types of various substances may include enzymes (e.g. collagenase, hyaluronidase), antibiotics, herbal extracts, vasodilators, vitamins, and hormones (calcitonin, thyroxin). The injections are given at depth of anywhere from 1 to 4 mms in the skin depending on the treatment area. Each injection would only give a small drop of the solution at the treatment area. In the beginning, injections are given every 7-10 days. If the patient’s skin shows improvement, the sessions are done every two weeks and eventually every month.

In order to treat conditions like alopecia, medications (e.g. minoxidil, finasteride), natural plant extracts, or vitamins are injected into the patient’s head. These substances help to deliver nutrients to the hair by improving blood circulation and also corrects hormonal imbalances near the hair follicles.

What to expect after the procedure?

After the procedure, patient may have nausea, infection, pain, itching, rashes, redness, scars, bruising along with either bumps or dark patches at the injection site. However, as this procedure is non-invasive, patients would be able to do their day to day activities right away.
