Dr. Praveen Ganigi was awarded the "SILVER JUBILEE BEST OUTGOING STUDENT AWARD " upon completion of his post graduate training in Neurosurgery at the prestigious National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS), Bangalore.
He underwent advanced training in minimally invasive complex spine surgery at Memphis, Tennessee, USA. He has been actively involved in the teaching and practice of advanced neurosurgical procedures since 2000. He initiated minimally invasive brain and spine surgery at previous hospital and also developed protocol based management of neurosurgical ICU patients.
He has performed carotid endarterectomies in patients undergoing simultaneous coronary artery bypass surgery and complex spinal stabilization procedures in patients undergoing abdominal aortic aneurysm surgeries. Dr. Praveen Ganigi was part of the operating team that successfully separated the internationally acclaimed case of the ischiopagus conjoined twin at Bangalore in 2007.
A rare case of thoracic spine mature teratoma in the form of an accessory leg tethering the spinal cord was successfully removed by Dr. Praveen Ganigi. He received the best paper presentation award at the Neuropedicon in 2004 for his original research work on pediatric high grade gliomas.
