Emsella Chair Treatment - Obstetrics and Gynecology, Urology

The loss of bladder control is a common health issue that affects both men and women. It usually develops later in life. The causes are the natural shrinking of bladder capacity and many other factors.

Urinary incontinence is not only a physical health problem. It also affects mental well-being and hampers social activity due to fear of embarrassment.

If you are experiencing any bladder control issues, you should seek medical help without delay. The problem can only grow bigger if therapy is absent.

There are various treatments for this condition.  The EMSELLA chair is one of them.

Overview

It is not always possible to prevent involuntary urine leaks. However, exercising the pelvic floor muscles can strengthen and maintain bladder function. These voluntary contractions are known as Kegel exercises. They effectively improve stress and urge incontinence.

Kegel exercises are not a simple exercise technique. Learning to do them properly often requires help from a professional physiotherapist.  But, what if there was a device that does them for you? If all you need to do is sit comfortably for a while?

EMSELLA chair is a machine that does Kegel exercises instead of you, and more. The technology stimulates the pelvic floor muscles in a way you could never do, with a maximum therapeutic effect.

Causes of Urinary Incontinence

Many factors can contribute to a sudden or gradual loss of bladder control. These can differ for men and women. That's because some significant risk factors, such as enlarged prostate or pregnancy, exist only in one gender.

There are different types of continence control issues. These are various reasons for involuntary leaks of urine. The common ones are:

  • Stress incontinence. – The bladder leaks under pressure from coughing, sneezing, heavy lifting, etc.
  • Overflow incontinence. – The bladder does not empty with voluntary urination.
  • Urge incontinence. – Intense, sudden, and uncontrollable urge to urinate.
  • Functional incontinence. – Mental or physical disability stops you from urinating properly or on time.
  • Mixed incontinence. – Usually a mix of stress and urge incontinence.

Urinary incontinence can be temporary or persistent.

Temporary urinary incontinence has two main characteristics:

1.The temporary increase in urine volume, and

2.Overstimulation of the bladder

Both of these may occur for many different reasons. These include:

  • Diuretics, such as caffeine and alcohol.
  • Artificial sweeteners
  • Chocolate
  • Spicy foods
  • Carbonated drinks
  • Vitamin C
  • Certain medications (heart and hypertension drugs, muscle relaxers, and sedatives.)

Constipation and urinary tract infections are also common causes of temporary urinary incontinence.

The temporary loss of bladder control often resolves on its own. Changes in dietary and lifestyle habits can also help. Sometimes, medical therapy is necessary. Urinary infections are a good example.

Persistent urinary incontinence is a problem that requires a different approach. It cannot resolve on its own and will likely become worse with time.

The causes include:

  • Long term obesity
  • Pregnancy
  • Childbirth
  • Age-related changes (weakening of muscles and shrinking of the bladder.)
  • Stroke
  • Menopause
  • Parkinson’s disease
  • Multiple sclerosis
  • Prostate cancer
  • Enlarged prostate
  • Bladder obstructions, such as tumors and stones.

There are many therapies for persistent bladder control loss. They range from behavioral techniques and pelvic floor exercises to medications, minimally-invasive procedures, and surgery.

EMSELLA chair is a non-invasive therapy for incontinence. The main principle of treatment is pelvic floor exercises. However, High Intensity Focused Electromagnetic Energy (HIFEM) allows the device to stimulate pelvic floor muscles far beyond the spectrum of voluntary contractions.

How does EMSELLA Chair help to Treat Incontinence?

EMESELLA chair is a non-invasive physiotherapy treatment. It is suitable for both women and men. Current results of EMSELLA chair use show it to be a simple and effective tool to increase the quality of life for people suffering from incontinence.

The device strengthens pelvic floor muscles, using High-Intensity Focused Electromagnetic Energy to improve bladder function and control.

Why are pelvic floor muscles important?

The muscles of the pelvic floor play a big part in controlling continence. Over time, however, their condition deteriorates because of different factors, such as childbirth, aging, and menopause.

The weakening and deterioration of pelvic floor function then causes continence problems. Stress incontinence is among the first symptoms. In such cases, coughing and sneezing, for example, lead to involuntary urine leaks.

How does the EMSELLA chair work?

A session on the EMSELLA chair lasts around thirty minutes. During that time, the device provokes thousands of pelvic floor muscles contractions. The total number is close to eleven thousand, and you do not have to do any work.

These contractions stimulate the muscles comprehensively, in a way impossible with Kegel exercises. That's because such a range of muscle contraction is unachievable voluntarily.

By using electromagnetic pulses, the device activates the entire pelvic floor (not only muscles), significantly improving the neuromuscular control in the area.

During the EMSELLA chair session, the patients sit on the chair comfortably with clothes on. There is no pain, only a tingling sensation. Medications and anesthesia are unnecessary, and there is no downtime. After the treatment, patients can go on with their usual daily activities.

Most patients require at least six sessions for optimal results. However, many report positive changes after only two or three treatments.

The Benefits of EMSELLA Chair

These are the main benefits of EMSELLA chair:

  • Painless, non-invasive treatment with no downtime.
  • Provokes the production of new proteins and muscle fibers, further strengthening the pelvic floor and bladder muscles.
  • Improves severe weakness of pelvic floor muscles.
  • Enables a comfortable, fully-clothed treatment.
  • Rapid improvement after two to six sessions.

Who is it for?

EMSELLA chair can improve continence control in both men and women who suffer from stress or urge incontinence.

EMSELLA chair is not suitable for pregnant women and people who have pacemakers, or any type of metal implants inside their bodies.
