DO’S AND DON’TS FOR MEDICAL TRAVEL

If you are going abroad to get medical treatment, then there are a few things you need to know. This is not specific to any country; rather general things you should adopt or avoid while away.

Do’s

  1. If the surgeon is excellent, chances are he is already over-booked. So make sure you have a prior appointment made before you actually travel.
  2. Make sure you get the doctor or his staff on the phone before you make your appointment. It is a good sign of the service you will get upon arrival.
  3. If you are travelling solo, then make sure someone knows everything about your travel plans. Even the smallest of procedures has associated risks and somebody should know where to find you.

Don’ts

  1. Do not solely rely on the hospital’s webpage. Information on their webpages can often be outdated. Try to contact previous patients if possible. Make sure you read the testimonials as well as run a Google search.
  2. Don’t be in a hurry to get home. If your surgeon asks you to stay at hospital for a few more days after post-op, then stay a few more days. It is better to stick around somewhere where people know your accurate health condition and the associated risks.
  3. Upon meeting the doctor, if you feel unsatisfied with him, you don’t have to stick with him. You can get a second opinion in a foreign country as well.

These were just a few things you need to do and avoid. Travelling abroad for treatment takes elaborate researching and planning. Whatever you do, make sure you are getting the best.
