Dr. Balaña graduated from the Central University of Barcelona and completed her residency in medical oncology at the Vall d'Hebrón Hospital.
She holds a PhD in medicine and was Head of Assistance at the Catalan Institute of Oncology in Badalona (can ruti), Vice President of the Research Ethics Committee of the Germans Trias i Pujol University Hospital and President of the Internal Scientific Committee of the Germans Trias i Pujol Research Institute.
Dr. Balaña has been a leading professional for the treatment of brain tumors at the Institut Català d Oncologia, founding member and president of the Spanish Neuro-oncology Research Group (GEINO) and member of the Scientific Committee of the European Association for Neuro-Oncology. She has been awarded several competitive brain tumor research grants.
Likewise, she has been part of the scientific committee of the congress of the European Society of Medical Oncology in various editions and has been invited to various national and international presentations on brain tumors. She is co-author of the European guidelines for the treatment of brain tumors, and those of the Spanish Society of Medical Oncology (SEOM).
Dr. Balaña has published more than 400 articles, books, and communications at national and international conferences, including prestigious journals such as Lancet Oncology, Nature Reviews in Clinical Oncology, Clinical Cancer Research, and Neuro-oncology, among others.
