Dr. Josep Brugada is a specialist in arrhythmias at El Pilar Hospital, a senior consultant for the Clinic Hospital and Director of the Paediatrics Arrhythmias Unit of the Sant Joan de Du Hospital of Barcelona.
In 1992, jointly with his brothers, he discovered a disease responsible for sudden cardiac death, which is known today as the Brugada Syndrome. Dr. Brugada is a specialist in the diagnosis and treatment using invasive techniques such as radiofrequency ablation of tachycardias and cardiac arrhythmias, or in the prevention of sudden death by implanting pacemakers, defibrillators and resynchronisers.
Dr. Brugada has published more than 500 articles in the most important medical and cardiology journals and his works have been recognised with numerous awards such as the Rey Jaime I Award in Clinical Medicine, the Fritz Acker Award from the German Cardiology Society or the American College of Cardiology Research Award, among others
