About the Doctor / Professional

I was educated at Wells Cathedral School in Somerset prior to my medical training at St. Mary’s Hospital Medical School in West London. During my training I undertook an intercalated BSc which provided the foundation for my long term interest in clinical research.

MD Brompton Hospital: I studied for my MD Thesis at the Royal Brompton Hospital from 1997-1999 and investigated blood clotting mechanisms, drugs affecting clotting and how these interact with coronary angioplasty and stenting. The Thesis is titled: ‘Platelet function and ischaemic heart disease: studies in stable coronary artery disease and percutaneous intervention’ and the post-graduate degree was awarded by the University of London in 2000.

Fellowship in Interventional Cardiology: I undertook a Fellowship in both clinical Cardiology and related research at the Pitie Salpetriere Hospital in Paris from 2001-2002. I passed the sub-specialty French DIU (Diploma Inter-Universitaire)in Interventional Cardiology in 2003.

Clinical Cardiology Training: I trained in the North West Thames region, working at both St. Mary’s Hospital and Harefield attaining the CCST (Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training) in 2004.

Current Post: I was appointed as Consultant Cardiologist at the Royal Brompton and Harefield NHS Trust in October 2005 and my aim is to combine both the provision of a top class clinical service and a dedicated programme of clinically based cardiological research. I have NHS outpatient clinics on Wednesday morning (Harefield) and Friday morning (Hillingdon). I work routinely in the Cardiac Catheter Laboratory on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I have a private outpatient clinic at Bishops Wood Hospital on Tuesday evenings where I also perform non-invasive investigations. In summary, I am fully trained in General Cardiology with a sub-specialty interest in Coronary Intervention, including Primary Angioplasty with experience in a Tertiary Referral Centre with full On Call duties. My research interests focus on clinical aspects of coronary intervention.
