Dr. Xavier Ruyra is the Director of the Heart Surgery Program of the Centro Médico Teknon. Grupo Quirónsalud and El Pilar Hospital/ Sant Jordi Cardio-vascular Center and is Head of the Heart Surgery Service of the Trias y Pujol University Hospital of Badalona. He has been educated and has completed specialization studies at European and North American Centres. Dr. Xavier Ruyra is one of the greatest experts in valve repair using the Ross procedure, thus preventing their replacement with artificial prosthetics and in reconstructive surgery of the heart chambers.
He is a specialist in minimally invasive heart surgery and in bloodless heart surgery and has developed multiple surgical techniques that are minimally damaging to the patient’s heart and organism (coronary surgery with the heart beating, extracorporeal minicirculation devices, atrial fibrillation surgery or bloodless heart surgery).
He combines his work as a surgeon with teaching at the University of Barcelona where he is an Associate Cardiac Surgery Professor. He has published 51 articles in specialized journals and 3 chapters of books; he has also participated in many international conferences and seminars and has developed several patents for devices used for valve repair or reconstruction.
