Prof. Dr. med. Martinus Richter is Head of the Department of Foot and Ankle Surgery at Rummelsberg Hospital (Nuremberg), where very comprehensive and innovative surgical and non-surgical therapies and treatments for foot and ankle problems at any age are offered: Gait analysis, pedography (distribution of forces under the sole of the foot) including intraoperative pedography, standing 3D X-ray imaging with PedCAT, computer-assisted corrective analysis and planning, matrix-associated stem cell transplantation (MAST) or autologous matrix-induced chondrogenesis with autologous conditioned plasma (AMIC+ACP).

In the course of his foot surgery activities, Professor Richter has performed more than 10,000 operations with more than 100,000 procedures. Professor Richter is particularly proud that he has been able to improve some surgical methods in foot surgery by developing new methods and/or implants (e.g. A3®, RIMBUS®, R-Lock®). With more than 800 scientific publications, Professor Richter is considered one of the most scientifically active foot surgeons worldwide. Diabetes is the number one cause of foot amputation worldwide. In Germany alone, more than 50,000 foot amputations are performed each year. Patients are left with a physical disability which often leads to a restricted lifestyle and reduced quality of life. Fortunately, reports indicate that a team-based approach incorporating improved screening, prevention programs focusing on how to care for diabetic feet, and early interventions to manage diabetic foot ulcers can reduce long-term amputation rates significantly.
